Jan Wed 2024
The Rebala Scenic Area, located at the confluence of Xiche River and Dianfang River in Longshan County, consists of three natural villages, namely Pengjia and Rebala natural villages of Laoche Administrative Village as well as Liangjia natural village.

The Ming and Qing ancient architectural complexes are mainly distributed in Laoche Village, where the Tujia ethnic group accounts for over 90% of the population. The scenic area has won many titles such as a “famous historical and cultural village in China”, a “traditional Chinese village”, the “hometown of Chinese folk culture and art” and the “hometown of Tujia brocade”.

The primitive Tujia villages, which have been formed through thousands of years of development, are a major highlight of the scenic area. At present, there are still thousands of households here, with people mainly descendants of the three Tusis.

The Rebala Tujia Pavilion Bridge is now a popular tourist attraction, built in the first year of Guangxu’s reign in the Qing Dynasty. In a “Y” shape, it connects three natural villages, with a total length of 288.8 meters. The bridge piers are made of processed stones in an “H” shape, and the bridge body is of a wooden structure. The bridge spans two rivers, with the widest part of about a hundred meters.

The most distinctive feature in the scenic area is the Ming and Qing ancient architectural complex built against the mountain. It is now still in good condition with a wooden or stone-wood structure.

At present, there are 5 buildings of the Ming Dynasty, 58 buildings of the Qing Dynasty, 34 buildings of the Republic of China, and characteristic buildings such as Chongtian Tower, Oil Workshop, and Tujia Hang-waving Hall in Laoche Village, with great historical, aesthetic and artistic research value.
